ABOUT THE PROJECT: 3D Clock
Come join us for a fun clock-building workshop and make your very own 3 dimensional free-standing or wall-hanging functioning clock!
Hand building a functional three dimensional object like a clock involves careful designing and planning. Kevin will guide you through the tools and techniques you will need to create and execute your own ceramic clock, including how to design and construct templates to help aide in construction. Also learn to accurately bevel and attach corners cleanly and how to integrate the clock mechanism into your design.

Students are responsible for bringing/purchasing the following:
Clockworks and Clock Hands from the instructor’s list of suggested hardware with links
Pencils, sketch pad or sketch book
Minimum 12” Metal ruler
Card Stock, cardboard (disassembled boxes) to cut patterns
Personal tools and brushes*
X-acto knife, fettling knife or other clay cutting tool*
Bevel Cutter*
Underglazes and specialty glazes* (This can be done after Day 1 once you lay out your design. Studio glazes are available for use)
*Can be purchased at BRP if needed.
Optional Materials:
PVC Pipe, mailing tube or empty wine bottle
Hump Molds, or large bowls
Old newspapers
Cling film/plastic wrap

Parking is street or in clearly designated BRP Spots. Please do not park in other business’s spots.
DETAILED WORKSHOP BREAKDOWN - DAY-BY-DAY
Day 1: Saturday, August 20, 2pm-5pm
Introduction to clocks
Presentation and Examples
Demonstration of Slab Roller and Non-Slab Techniques, with both Soft and Stiff Slabs including draping, wrapping and proper joining of slabs.
Show and Install Clockworks on a sample clock (Discuss leaving space for install, depth of clock axis)
Attendees Sketch Ideas
Discuss Sketches one-on-one
Start Rolling Slabs, Preparing Elements and Templates for the next day.
Day 2: Sunday, August 21, 2pm-5pm
Work, Work, WORK!
Build Clocks
Dry for firing on Thursday of that week.
All greenware must be at Hayden Tract by or before 7pm on Thursday, August 25th to make it for firing!
Day 3 (1 week later): Sunday, August 28, 2pm-5pm
Glaze clocks
Leave work at Hayden to be fired Sunday/Monday. Staff will contact you for pick-up.
