Kids and adults beginner pottery class

Kids and Adult beginner Class

Our Kids and Adult Beginner Class are open to BOTH kids (ages 7+) and adults. The class is 1.5 hours and includes guided instruction on the wheel.

If you’re visiting from out of town, you can arrange for shipping when your pots are ready

These are not private classes and are not meant for 1-on-1 attention or for groups of 6 or more who want to go at their own pace. Others who are not in your group will be taking the class as well. If you want to go at your own pace or have a larger group, please book a private.

  • Our group classes include step-by-step instruction, clay, tools, your choice of glaze, and all post-production (bisque and glaze firing). These are non-private sessions, and the instructor moves everyone through the process together.

After a short demo, students are guided in making beginner-friendly pieces like bowls or small pots. At the end of class, you’ll help with a quick cleanup and choose a glaze for your piece.

Finished pots stay at the studio for glazing and firing. You'll be notified when they’re ready for pick-up — please allow 6–8 weeks.

  • Please sign your child in 15 minutes before class. Once class starts, we kindly ask parents to leave unless you are actually a student in the class. We need ample space to move around during the session. Pick up at the end of class.

  • Please note all bookings are final and we’re unable to offer refunds, reschedules, or changes once a reservation is made. To keep things running smoothly, everyone must arrive on time; late arrivals may miss important parts, and classes will still end as scheduled.

Each student needs their own ticket to join.

  • Please respect your instructor and the others in the studio. Put your phones on vibrate or silent. Take all phone calls outside if needed.

We provide tripods if you would like to film your experience!

  • Parking is street parking (metered and non-metered), please pay attention to the street signs. Do not park in any business’s parking lots.

  • Please allow at least six-eight (6-8) weeks for your pottery to complete the firing process. Staff will contact you when everyone’s pottery in your group is ready to be picked up. From the time of your contact, you have 30 days to come pick up your pottery. After 30 days, your work may not be available for pick-up as we need to clear room for new student work.

Occasionally, pieces do not make it through the firing process due to air bubbles, construction issues, etc. Occasionally, firings do not go as planned - shapes may warp slightly or glazes may come out different than expected. Staff cannot control the results of firings once a pot is in the kiln. This is simply the nature of the imperfect ceramic process. Completed, “perfect” pots cannot be guaranteed.

REFUNDS WILL NOT BE ISSUED IF YOUR PIECE DOES NOT MAKE IT.

You are coming to Bitter Root Pottery for the whole experience of working in a ceramics studio with a knowledgeable, friendly instructor! Our instructors have been working for years in this discipline to learn its many nuances and to get to the skills they have today. These skills cannot be imparted in one 2 hour session. While you may have ideas of making a perfect bowl, we encourage you to put those expectations down and focus on enjoying the entire experience of working with clay and engaging with the creative process so in-depth.
